Greetings friends, neighbors, and countrymen,
Last night was was another pretty fun engagement at Downtown Disney for me and the KRB.
I've recently found out that this end of the district will be torn down
and a new hotel will be built.
I'm sure hoping that another live music stage will be included in the
new construction. If you click the link, the current stage is located
approximately where you see the white roof over the breezeway between
the two main new hotel buildings in the artist's rendition.
But today's adventure starts at the office. We worked just a half day
today, the last work day before our holiday break. The gang in the shop
decided to put together a brunch. We all brought something and had a
good time cooking eggs and chorizo, waffles, bacon, sausage, fruit,
juice, coffee, etc.
This was my first plate. I went back later to get some eggs and chorizo.
After a rough day at the office I made my way down to the Happiest Place On Earth. The clouds were looming as I got closer.
I parked as closely as I could in the employee lot. It still seemed the
stage was a half mile away. This Rock-n-Roller cart makes it easy to
move gear.
I'm almost there. You can tell by the map.
When I arrive I toss my rig on stage while Art gets set up and Skyler wires up the sound.
It's dark when we start at 6pm.
Skip is festive in his Santa hat. I wish I'd brought mine. It was pretty cool tonight.
Daniel wore his new hat tonight (rabbit ears supplied by Art). Kelly is ready to put on the show.
Then, just after we start the second set, the rain starts. Not a heavy
rain but just enough to get stuff wet. We shut down the show, covered up
our gear, and called the stage manager. We were told to wait it out
until 8pm and then see what the weather was like. Maybe you can see the
raindrops in this picture.
You can see more evidence of the rain here under the monorail tracks.
Nobody was expecting this weather this evening. We wanted to play! It's
been a while since our last gig.
Thankfully, the rain did end so we started the show back up at 8pm and finished the night.
Daniel is catching on. You can't really tell in this picture but he's
waving his bow like a windshield wiper to keep Art away while he sings
"Devil Went Down To Georgia". No rabbit ears this time. Kelly laughs.
On a break, the lads hang out behind the stage.
Kelly brought us all a little gift for Christmas. It's been a good year.
Then we're back for the last set. It had been a while since I've sung
all night. My voice got tired so I just tried to remember to take deep
breaths and push a lot of air.
Skyler was mixing like a mad man tonight. He's a good guy to have around.
Kelly looks a bit sultry while she sings the intro to "Real Gone". I like that song, it rocks.
Mario puts some jingle bells on his new yellow kit.
Besides the long break during the second set, we play all night and have
a good time. I helped Skyler roll up all the cables and then load
myself out.
A friend of mine from work and her husband came out tonight. She said,
"Wow! I didn't know you guys were good!" The evening was a bit chilly
and damp but it was a pretty good crowd and we all had fun. Our next
gigs are the first weekend of January, Valley View Casino on Friday the
5th and a corporate event for Dairy Queen at Disneyland on the 6th.
Kelly gave up our Gilley's dates in Las Vegas that weekend because we
could actually stay in town and make more money. I like playing Gilley's
but, what can I say? I'm just the bass player. True Willie has a gig on
the 3rd at Feather Falls Casino so I'll get to travel that week anyway.
I've got no NYE gig this year. I'll be at home with my family. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to all of you, my
brothers and sisters, my friends. God bless.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
