City Hall Park, Brea CA 7/29/15

Hello friends,

We had a really good gig this past Wednesday, another concert in the park, City Hall Park in Brea CA.

When I arrived I got this strange feeling of deja vu. It looked sooo familiar.

Above you see the stage/gazebo and Art with his girlfriend, Lori. I told Art this looks familiar and asked him if we've played here before. It turns out that Art and I did a 4th of July gig here four or five years ago with another band, Anthony Rivera and Raining Horseshoes.

I roll my rig on stage in front of the sound company's gear. This is another terrific sound company and crew, Trinity Sound Company. My thanks to Devin and Peter for all their hard work.

This is Devin, the sound company owner, at the FOH. He seems a little lonely out there all by himself. Devin's company is Trinity Sound Company.

Here's a picture of Devon's mains setup for today. JBL monitors, JBL subs, with Nexo tops. And he knows how to use them.

The band does it's ritual "dance of the setup", a delicate and intricate symbiosis that produces musical fun and merriment.

Here's Devin, the owner of Trinity Sound Company, FOH guy, head cook and bottle washer, manning his OL1 mixer. There is a LOT of stuff going on in that little board. It's pretty nice.

Devin and one of the sound crew, Peter, get Mario's drums all mic'd up. This is the same sound crew that worked with us at the Brea Bonanza Days country music festival a couple of months ago. I would recommend Trinity Sound for all of your live sound events.

Jeff and I think about taking a quick plunge in the pool before we sound check. This community pool used to be called "The Plunge".

Daniel puts the final touches on his rig while Peter makes connections.

We were offered hot dogs and tri-tip sandwiches for supper. Good stuff. We also got chips and a drink, a free "meal deal".

I think they got the name of the band wrong on this poster. But a couple of people told us that we were pretty incredible.

Actually, that was the movie that was being shown later. Good family fun.

The sponsors were giving away these neat little fans with the concert series schedule on them. Can you tell what band I'm pointing to?

Jeff and Kelly are ready to sound check.

Daniel and Art say, "Are you ready to sound check?" "Who, me?" "Are YOU ready to sound check?"

Mario honors Vic Firth.

I think Jeff likes what he hears at sound check.

As I slip away to put on my cowboy shirt, the park starts filling up.

Here's my amp-selfie just before we start.

This was our emcee who made the announcements and introduced the band. He wasn't the mayor.

Mario is wondering why that keyboard player is hanging around by the drum set.

We had a really good crowd for this gig. At first the crowd was sitting only in the shady areas. But as it cooled the crowd grew and spread out. We had kids dancing and line dancers having their fun.

Jeff is putting on the show under the lights.

Daniel and Art were doing their thing on stage left.

Kelly stepped out front and put a great show.

It was dark by the time we finished and got our gear loaded. Mario says good night.

Our photographer/musician friend, Steve of Steve C. Miller Photography, came out to see us and snapped a few pictures. He does good work. If you are in the OC and need a wedding photographer or band shoot, he'll do a great job. These following are his pictures.

Kelly's daughters were there to sing a song from their CD, Songs About Dogs.

It's really hard to get a good shot of the bass player. I guess Steve did the best he could considering the subject matter.

And that was our concert in the park last week. Our next one is this coming Thursday in La Mirada. We've got quite a few gigs in August. See our schedule at Kelly Rae Band and stop by if you're in the area. I'd be glad to meet you!

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
