Monday we had a terrifically fun gig at the "Happiest Place On Earth". Our dear Kelly Rae was out of town so we worked with Kellye Huff from our friends, The Buckaroo Strangers. She killed it and helped us put on a good show. We were part of some special events for the annual pass holders at the park. We were one of a few special entertainment acts at various venues around the park just for the season pass holders to attend.
This was the very first time Kellye had checked in at the security station.
And this was her very first shuttle ride from the employee parking lot at Disney. She seems excited, or is it just me?
When we arrived at the Golden Horseshoe Saloon I asked our handler to take a picture of me in Walt's box. Walt used to watch the shows from this very spot.
I'm not exactly sure why these guys are counting on their fingers. We played only four half-hour sets with half hour breaks.
Josh, who ran sound for us this evening, and I discuss the finer points of art during the Rococo period.
Art seems really happy to set up his pedal board. You see Brian, part of the stage crew, looking on and ready to help.
The band adjusts and places our mics and gear and bodies on the small stage.
Kellye is already in her costume when we are ready to sound check.
Brian was very helpful. He even used my camera to wander around and take pictures. This is a beautiful room and very, very live.
The place was packed for every show, with lines outside waiting to get in. They must not have heard that I was playing tonight.
During a break Brian takes our picture back stage.
Then we are back at it again. Even the balcony was crowded most of the night.
The guests really seemed to enjoy the show. They sang along, clapped their hands, snapped their fingers, and generally had a good time. They especially enjoyed Daniel's fiddle playing.
Later they even started dancing right in front of the stage.
We had several people come to all four shows that night. We made sure to meet them at the end of the evening. We had some very nice attendees.
We played everything from Johnny Cash to Bruno Mars, Miranda Lambert to ABBA, Vince Gill to John Fogerty. They enjoyed it all.
Mario, Jeff, and I used backline gear from The Mouse. Art and Daniel brought their own rigs.
The night went by very quickly because of the energy in the room. I can't remember a more fun crowd. Tonight we had better crowds here at the Golden Horseshoe than at most of our "Nashville" shows last summer. Maybe it was the red shirts? (Actually, I think it was due to venue location. The "Nashville" show was at the Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree stage which is kind of out of the way and can be hard to find.)
We were having a great time but had to call it quits at 12:45. That's pretty late for a Disney gig.
Now it's time to say goodbye, to all our company. M - I - C ... See you real soon. K - E - Y ... Why? Because we LIKE you! M - O - U - S - E!
I did video one set. I had to set my camera backstage off to the side and shoot through the curtains. You can't see much and the drums are really loud. But I wanted to give you a taste. These 7 minutes of highlights were from the last show of the night, 12:15-12:45, and the room was still full. It was late for a Disney gig but it was a great crowd.
And that was another night working for The Mouse. We have another private party scheduled at Disneyland the first week of June. I'm looking forward to having more fun at "The Happiest Place On Earth".
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
